Office gossip, funny phone calls, and the occasional party liven up any humdrum business scene...but for work at home professionals, boredom is an ongoing battle.

Suffering from the pain of boredom in work at home? Working at home always sounds great to those who don’t actually do it for a living. The truth is, the pressure of setting schedules, meeting deadlines, staying focused and disciplined on the job are all extremely hard tasks to master. The work might often feel uninspiring, and other, much more fun pursuits always seem to beckon. Even doing regular chores can seem like a nice change of pace for professionals who spend their entire working lives - and down time - in the same location.

Work at Home

Home is traditionally a place of fun, of relaxation, of enjoyment and family time. When work collides with the home, however, traditional lines get blurred and schedules get harder and harder to keep. Work at home professionals learn that they can get the laundry done and work on other chores while they pay the bills through working, and one discovery often leads to the next. Work, even work at home, is not fun. Television, games, and any number of other distractions found in the home can be. This is usually how the trouble starts.

Battle Boredom

Learn how to effectively manage time at work to avoid distractions and stay focused on the tasks at hand. It’s important to take breaks every so often, enjoy a little down time away from the desk, but it’s equally important not to let those breaks last too long or take too much away from the working day. Boredom on the job can lead to anxiety and other feelings that aren’t at all conductive to turning out quality projects, so find a way to liven up the day and dispel some of those monotonous feelings.

Stay Focused to Stay Employed

Make the home office a place that’s fun, and chase away the blues of being bored. Add music or television to the background of the work day to make the hours feel a little less lonely. Most work at home professionals struggle with the solitary nature of this profession, so overcoming these lonely feelings can make a big difference in productivity. The distraction of a pet can actually help self employed professionals get through the work day a little easier, as having a warm body around goes a long way toward dispelling feelings of loneliness and boredom. Can’t deal with a living, breathing pet? Try virtual pets - another good distraction when the work day just doesn’t have enough to hold your attention.

Sometimes, self employed and work at home professionals can greatly benefit from a change of scenery. Re-arrange office furniture, or move into a different room to get work completed. A small change can make a dramatic difference when it comes to battling boredom.
