Thanks for posting this piece. You sound more encouraging than we'd been led to believe it would be. I'll certainly check out those links that you give, they'll help enormously on our research for getting health care when you're self-employed. We live in England but my wife's American and we're considering moving to Arizona, but having to find health care (we're both self-employed) is one of the major major considerations.

When I decided to become a consultant, I was young and healthy. I realize now that that's just the right time to get health insurance. Moreover, when you set your set consulting fee rates, you should factor in downtime, sick time and the cost of your health insurance.
