» Lisa Manfield - Intrinsic rewards

I think one of the reasons people work for themselves is because they are motivated by intrinsic rewards, in other words, they are motivated internally to accomplish certain things and don't necessarily need that outside praise that can come from an employment situation. Then again, it is always nice to be able to tell someone else about what you've accomplished and hear them ooh and ahh. =)

In response to Intrinsic rewards posted by lmanfield:
Outside praise can do a lot to keep you motivated. Working from home can be isolating and not having a feedback loop can be a problem. That's why it's important for consultants to network with peers, ask for feedback from clients, and do everything they can to feel good about the work they do. If you're going to charge $75 to $150 an hour (or more!), you need to feel confident about your consulting fee rate. So the more you can do to feel positive, the more likely you'll be able to invoice with confidence.
