How to Turn Your Passion for Golf into an Employment Opportunity

Jan 29, 2008 KC Morgan

Waiting all week to enjoy the weekend, and that trip to the golf course, is a pretty poor trade-off. Want to live a golfer's dream? Work at the links, not the office.

Wouldn’t it be great to play golf for a living, to work at the links instead of at the office? This isn’t just a golfer’s dream but one of self employment. Strip away all the sponsors, all the hype, even the trophies, and all professional golfers are really self employed professionals.

Work at the Links

Golf is a highly popular hobby, sport and television event. But for some, golf can become a job, a path to self employment and self sufficiency. Wait…but isn’t it almost impossible to play golf professionally, to really make a living on the links? Most people will never play golf professionally, it’s true, but there are many other ways to use golf as a venue for self employment. There are many ways to live a golfer’s dream.

A Golfer’s Dream

Those who love golf can still earn a living from the links, even if they aren’t playing the game to earn their money. Remember, a great self employment job is the one that makes the self employed professional happy. Those who love golf can always make their living around the game, and enjoy a living they love.

Golf Ideas

Got a great golf idea? Tools, tips, tricks, and training devices are always needed in golf. New gadgets, clubs and ideas are introduced to the sport all the time. Those who can create great lesson plans or needed inventions stand a good chance of finding success by selling to golfers. Golf is known as an expensive hobby, and plenty of golfers are willing to pay if they think a tool or method will improve their play.

Being a Golf Caddy

Many people think of golf caddies as young boys who do little more than pull clubs and find lost balls. In the world of golfing, however, the golf caddy is a highly-regarded individual with more than a cursory knowledge of the playing field and a great eye for detail. Golf caddies know about the clubs, the equipment, the course, and they know how to advise golfers on what to do. Those who are good at caddying can actually turn this into a lucrative career, as tournament golfers who earn purses pay caddies faily well.

Become a Golf Instructor

Know the game of golf? Know how to teach others to play? There’s a large market for golf instructors, especially those who can work with young children and people just starting out in the sport. Those who have played professional golf can charge more for these efforts, but anyone who knows the game can teach it. Those who are good with people and know how to play can instruct others on learning golf. Self employed professionals who are good at teaching golf can find a career in it, and still be out there on the golf course while earning money.
