On the surface, being self employed sounds like a dream. But, for those who don't know where to find work at home opportunities, it can be a financial nightmare.

Know where to find work at home opportunities? One of the hardest aspects of being self employed is actually finding work, something that every self employed professional has to do for themselves. Unfortunately, employers don’t go searching for work at home professionals, but wait for independent contractors to come to them. Anyone who wants to be successful at self employment has to learn where to find work at home…otherwise, it’s a wash.

Find Work at Home Opportunities

The good news is, finding self employment opportunities isn’t impossible…just difficult. The trick to finding work at home is about knowing where to look, but even this is only half the battle that is successful self employment. Even for those who know exactly where to find work at home jobs, it’s not enough.

Be Prepared to Be Great

Before worrying about where to find work at home opportunities, get ready for real self employment with a great resume. In many cases, it’s a good idea to create an online portfolio to showcase work as well. Employers, even those who are hiring professionals to work at home, want to see cover letters complete with resumes, and in most cases this is all they need to make their decision. Create a great resume and a concise cover letter that briefly highlights individual talents, skills, and experience. Be ready to send out cover letters and copies of a resume before looking for work, because otherwise it’s probably a waste of time. Employers know what they want to see, so find out how to give it to them.

Find Work

When it comes to finding work at home jobs and other self employment opportunities, there’s no better place to look than the Internet. At the same time, there’s not a more confusing place to try and find work, either. There are a lot of scams, a lot of Web sites that want money or email addresses before parting with precious job lists, and other assorted hassles that are all part of surfing the Web. The work at home jobs are out there, however, and the best way to find them is through job boards. Look for (free) online job boards which offer a wide variety of different jobs and work at home opportunities, and regularly check these boards. In many cases, it’s a good idea to stay on top of these job boards daily.

There are a lot of self employed professionals out there, and many of them will be vying for the same job. But perseverance pays, especially when it comes to work at home. Keep looking through job boards, keep sending cover letters, and keep track of all the materials sent and addresses replied to. Eventually, something great will come back in return.
