New gadgets and electronics look attractive to entrepreneurs. But would those gizmos really help? Is upgrading office space really worth the time and money?

Working all alone is hard enough. Working all alone on old, outdated, and slow equipment is usually nothing more than a ride in the frustration fast lane. When it seems impossible to get ahead because equipment is lagging behind, maybe it’s time to consider upgrading office space.

But, isn’t that expensive? A brand new computer with matching printer, scanner, and fax would set anyone back a pretty penny. For many self-employed professionals, it’s hard enough just to get the bills in on time. When is it necessary to upgrade office space, and when isn’t it worth it at all?

When slow, outdated equipment stops professionals from getting the job done, it’s time to consider an upgrade. When work is piling up, deadlines are getting missed, and some tasks simply can’t be completed, a self employed career might be hurting more than helping. After all, self employment income depends on reliable office equipment.

These days, even those who are budget-conscious can get affordable supplies for their office space. Used computers and parts make upgrading easy, and many companies now offer affordable payment plans for even brand-new PCs and Macs.

Even simple, small upgrades can make a big difference in productivity. For those who work alone, productivity is of prime important. Stopping, re-starting, and waiting for slow machines to run can be very disheartening, creating stress that makes the working environment that much harder to cope with. Upgrading office space can breathe new life into a self employment career, which could in turn boost self employed revenue.

Upgrading office space is only worth it when it’s affordable, and when it’s necessary to increase productivity and reduce working stress.Otherwise, independent contractors may regret making expensive equipment purchases or locking themselves into payment plans that aren’t really feasible. Have a budget, and work inside those guidelines. If new office equipment is still feasible, reasonable, and necessary, then it’s worth it to upgrade office space.

Before buying any electronic or computer equipment, do a little research first. Nothing sticks with self employed professionals like a bad office equipment purchase, so it’s worth it to read reviews and compare prices before ever doing “real” shopping around. Get an idea of what’s out there, and available, before leaping to stores.

When is upgrading office equipment worth it? When it becomes almost impossible to get the job done any other way, and it’s still affordable. Otherwise, self employed professionals might be biting off too much to financially chew.
