With jobs getting more and more difficult to obtain in this economy, rather than endlessly searching for outside employment, self-employment may be the way to go.
The Dilemma of UnemploymentLarge scale lay-offs are occurring more and more regularly throughout all regions of the country, and facing unemployment is becoming an ordeal for more and more families and individuals. Though many believe that a college degree is crucial, and that those without them are destined to struggle through life sweating away in a factory, this is not always the case. Often, those that have been certified in a skill or trade make much more than those with college degrees. Even high paying administrative support positions, which are traditionally filled by women, are demanding more from potential candidates, and getting more difficult to obtain, even with some education and experience. The fact is, employers look for over-qualified applicants. So how can one support themselves, when for every position they pursue, there are at least 30 other people in line, and with such high unemployment rates, a high probability that over half the competition is more qualified? Self-Employment and Self-Generated IncomePerhaps a re-directed approach that is a little bit outside the office box, so to speak, may have better results. Employing one’s talents could be part of the working philosophy. If the unemployed considered their skills, availabilities and strengths on a larger scale, perhaps small business owners and those that work from home would start to overturn corporate companies that are laying off workers in large numbers - giving the working world an "inward slope," in a manner of speaking. When people apply their skills and their time in a lucrative context, such as working online or from out of their homes, the urgency and stress of finding outside employment becomes diminished, and one can take more control over their loss of income. Creating your own JobThere are websites that connect freelancers to legitimate work, and/or grant access to a huge database of various work available. This kind of work is not just for established authors and graphic designers. Many freelancing jobs are in remote administrative support, project management assistance, and so on. Often they do not require any special education requirements. Guru and Elance are very reputable freelancing services, to name just a couple. Being a full time tutor or hsubstitute teacher can also be very rewarding work. This is also something that is in constant demand, especially when applying to more than one school district. One can still be their own boss in regards to being free to set their own schedule. On any given day a substitute is called, they have the option to accept or decline . Everyone has a marketable skill. Musical instrument lessions, selling artistic services, car maintenance, babysitting/daycare - all of these are options. Financial independence can be one of the most rewarding things to attain, and there is more than one way to get it.
