Work at Home Rarely Brings Praise

Work at home means working alone, with no one around to say "good job," or offer helpful advice. In self employment, it's important to remember self recognition.

When working at home, never forget the important of self recognition. At the office, when employees do a job well, others congratulate them. The boss may give them a thumbs-up. It isn't much, but at least it's something. Sometimes, workers may even be rewarded with a bonus, a raise, an extra day off.

Self Recognition

Work at home, in fact any sort of self employment, is totally different. You are your own boss, so there is no one to congratulate you, praise you, say you've done a great job. This is where self recognition becomes important. When you do something you know is great, come up with a fabulous new achievement, do you only smile to yourself and get right back to work? Do you even acknowledge the fact that you've made a great achievement, share this with anyone else? Self recognition doesn't have to mean bragging to friends or tooting your own horn, but if you have done a great job, why not recognize that for what it is? Don't be afraid to praise yourself for the work you do.

Work at Home Rarely Brings Praise

After all, it isn't likely that anyone else is going to praise you. This is one of the drawbacks of self employment and work at home. You know you're doing a great job, but no one else is going to award you with a raise, a day off, a bonus. Self recognition means giving these things to yourself. Hey, you're the boss! If you think your number one employee (namely, you) needs a bonus, a raise, a day off - give it to yourself. Self recognition isn't about saying "great work" to yourself, very quietly, every so often. You should celebrate achievements, whether you work at home for your self employment or not.

Self recognition is also about taking some time for yourself. You may work from home, but that doesn't mean that home and work can't both be fun. Take breaks, relax, take a day off if you can. Self employment doesn't mean that you work every available second. Take some time to enjoy yourself, too. There is some good advice in this blog, Take Time for Yourself.
