Budgeting for the holidays isn’t easy, and if it was no one would scramble toward the end of December to make Christmas turn out okay. For most, the shopping season is a nightmare of overcrowded stores and very bare bank accounts. Almost everyone needs a little extra money this Christmas (and every other Christmas). Learn a few tips to find out how it’s done.
Food. A great way to say “Merry Christmas” and to save money. Making any kind of candy or treats is a fabulous Christmas gift.
Crochet. A very under-appreciated skill, it takes a good deal of work and know-how to create something out of yarn. It takes time to crochet something, and that alone makes it a valuable Christmas gift.
Photographs. Snap a few pictures of friends and family when they pop in for a visit, then frame these photos and give them as gifts. Everyone appreciates a good picture, and this personalized touch will impress the receivers. Take this one step further and create an entire scrapbook, a sentimental gift they’ll remember for a long time.
Make candles. It’s not as difficult as it sounds, and it’s even possible to create candles with scents, shapes and unusual designs. They’ll love the personal touch and time it takes to create such a gift, and the price is definitely right for those doing the making. Gel candles and sand candles often come in easy-to-use kits, though the method of melting paraffin and wax isn’t all that difficult or time-consuming.
Christmas ornaments. No, don’t buy the ones that cost twenty dollars a pop. Instead imagine the possibilities a little ribbon, some golden bells and other small objects might create. Silk flowers, pine cones, imagines of Santa Claus and a little creativity can go a long way toward creating beautiful Christmas ornaments they’ll cherish. Consider this: a few craft supplies may yield a dozen or more ornaments. If that doesn’t help prevent holiday overspending, nothing will.
The holidays are looming and budgets are tight, even with holiday gift money-saving ideas. Bring in extra money with some income-gathering activities. Consider selling some of those great Christmas crafts on eBay, or perhaps blogging about the holidays to earn ad revenue profit. Look for work at home gigs that need seasonal help or promise quick income for work. Some companies pay contractors to make phone calls or catch up on typing. Look for the extra money making opportunities out there, and they’ll be found.
