Is self employment going to change? While campaigning, President-elect Barack Obama talked of changes to health care, taxes and small businesses. Those who make their living with work at home jobs have an active interest in all of these issues, and by extent interest in the rest of the world’s economy. What’s going to happen to the future of work at home jobs?
Change can be hopeful, but it can also be scary. For some, it’s better to stay with a known situation than to dive into something new and different. With the known, professional have some idea of what to expect. But this doesn’t mean the future of work at home jobs looks grim. Some change in self employment could even be a good thing.
Healthcare for Self Employment
Having a new leader doesn’t mean seeing changes overnight, especially where health care for self employment is concerned. Having national health care or some federal-level relief for individual health care policies (which are often expensive and provide less-than-average coverage) could help greatly, but it’s unlikely this will be implemented within the few months if at all. Self employment changes in this area would be nice, and Barack Obama seems to have plans to address uninsured and underinsured workers - but don’t drop those individual health insurance policies just yet.
The Self Employment Tax
The self employment tax is something many work at home professionals would like to see change, but this isn’t likely. The self employment tax, wherein those who work at home pay an extra tax on earned income, probably won’t be lowered. However, there could be more tax breaks in the future for those who don’t make a quarter-million dollars per year (which includes a good-sized chunk of self employed professionals).
Change in Self Employment
It’s unlikely that small businesses (a label which could include those who use home-based businesses as a means for self employment) will see new taxes added to their already-strained budgets. One planned change touted by Barack Obama includes more money for the housing market, which could provide some much-needed relief for those who work at home. It’s hard to get a job done when the home is so closely linked to working income, and a financial crisis seems to threaten both. This is one self employment change which could be very welcome for those who live by work at home jobs.
The Future of Work at Home Jobs
The future of work at home jobs, the future in general, is hard to predict with any degree of accuracy. No one knows the future, and no one should. For some, the future of work at home and self employment seems bright, while others may be viewing a grimmer picture. Prepare for any change by budgeting carefully, cutting out extra expenses in times of lean and saving up money when possible. Maintain interest-bearing accounts so money will build up over time. These types of accounts effectively help at-home workers to prepare for retirement and times of low income. Be ready for any possible changes to be ready for the future of work at home jobs.
