There are few things that can’t be accomplished on the Internet these days. Need to send a file? Hold a meeting? Make a long-distance voice call? It can all be done online- so can’t almost any job be done online as well? There are some professions that can lend themselves to self employment pretty easily…with the right equipment.
- Webcam. While a Webcam isn’t an essential piece of self employment equipment, it can be useful for staging face-to-face meetings of any kind. With a digital camera and/or scanner, images can be exchanged even without this item, however.
- VoIP software. Voice over Internet protocol programs, like Ventrilo, can be free to download and incredibly easy to use. Using this, computer speakers and a microphone (many of which retail for around $20 USD), it’s possible to communicate via voice with anyone anywhere in the world- so long as they have the Internet and the same VoIP program, of course. These handy little tools can be even more convenient- and more affordable- than a cell phone.
- Fax machine. Documents can be scanned and sent almost instantly through fax machines, which makes it easy to work from home or, indeed, anywhere else. Fax machines can be great as far as self employment equipment goes, but many documents can be put in a .pdf format and sent via email. It can be helpful to know how to implement both systems.
- Wireless Internet. It’s not just a fast-growing trend, it’s a great way to get things done. With a laptop or Internet-enabled mobile device, it’s easy to get work done even when on the go or at the job site.
These days, a work at home job could include thousands of different professions. Writers, teachers, architects, therapists, artists…the possibilities are endless. Using the right self employment equipment and the Internet, anything really is possible. Being self employed takes discipline and dedication...everything else it takes can be purchased.
