Looking for a career in the beauty industry? Many women find this a great choice and an excellent way to start a lucrative career even if they only have a high school diploma. Fingernail technicians provide various services to their customers which include manicures, pedicures, applying acrylic nails and wraps.

The beauty business is a billion dollar a year business. An excellent opportunity exists to establish a great home based business in this dynamic beauty field. In fact, a large number of self employed fingernail technicians operate out of their homes or travel to a customer's location.

Technicians are responsible for many duties but they are basically concerned with manicures and pedicures. Here is a roundup of their basic duties:

Manicurists working in salons make about $21, 280 in 2006 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Home based nail techs usually charge by the service performed. A basic manicure might cost $20 and up. Many fingernail technicians also offer their clients other types of beauty treatments and products to supplement their income. Potential income depends on experience and sales skills plus the amount of competition in the local area. That said, a considerable income is possible if the tech builds up a large client base that seeks their services on a regular basis.

Many advertising methods are employed and the following are quite successful at attracting new customers.
