Find Self Fulfillment

Work at Home Isn't the Answer to Everything

After lots of saving, careful calculations and a ton of networking, the goal is reached. Self employment is a reality. But this doesn't guarantee self fulfillment.

Not everyone can find self fulfillment just because they’ve found self employment. Work at home isn’t the answer to everything, and even calling the shots doesn’t guarantee happiness and joy. In fact, self employment can be extremely stressful - much more so than traditional forms of employment.

Burdens to Bear

The idea of self employment isn’t quite the same as the reality. When thinking about working at home, images of sitting around in pajamas and drinking coffee at noon may spring to mind. The idea of kicking back on the laptop and watching movies while working sounds great, but the reality is that this often doesn’t work. It’s easy to get distracted, sidetracked, to lose concentration or to just skip work. That’s why it’s so easy to get stressed out about self employment.

Self employed professionals are wholly responsible for themselves in a way that’s wholly different from working for someone else. Those who work at home must find jobs, land those jobs and complete those jobs - to put it succinctly. In print, it sounds pretty easy. As a day to day practice, it can be one of the hardest things in the world, one that doesn’t easily lend itself to self fulfillment.

Work at Home Isn’t the Answer to Everything

Those who expect self employment to be rife with lazy mornings and interesting jobs are going to be in for a pretty rude awakening when faced with the cold, hard reality of daily job hunts, relentless self-marketing and unabashed criticism from employers, clients and the random public. In self employment, it’s important to do the jobs and projects which are possible to get and complete - that doesn’t always mean the jobs which are the most fun or highest-paying.

Those who work at home can still be fired even when they work for themselves. Daily stresses, feeling burnt-out and work that simply seems boring can take its toll on anyone - especially those who work primarily alone.

Find Self Fulfillment

What is the real joy of self employment? It isn’t about doing work that’s fun (though sometimes, there might be some of that) or even the environment the work’s being done in. It isn’t the freedom of setting one’s own schedule, picking and choosing which jobs to do or even creating a known reputation as a self employed professional. How is it possible to find self fulfillment with self employment? Financial independence.

The real joy of work at home, of being self employed, is in reaping the rewards of that work. Isn’t that the real joy of any job - the monetary gain? It’s no different with self employment. To find true self fulfillment with the job, find ways to earn through effort. Being happy with self employment is as easy (or as difficult) as finding the jobs which provide enough money to support the lifestyle the self employed professional wants to have. Money won’t make the daily stress go away and it won’t make boring work more interesting, but it will provide a tangible result for all that hard work. More, it will provide the freedom and independence to continue with self employment. Can self fulfillment be so far behind?
