The truth is, the business world favors the bigger companies and caters to those who have money. Electronics and equipment are expensive, though outrageous discounts are offered to those who can afford to buy in bulk. For the single-office executive and the self employed professional, such convenient breaks and bargains are few and far between. When buying brand-new is not an option, it’s time to think about organizing a new budget which might allow for payment schedules. A lot of items can be purchased on such payment plans, giving self employed professionals the opportunity to get what they need without finding funding first.

For those still looking to go a cheaper route, there is a lot of affordable home office equipment out there. Many companies sell used products that are much more cost-effective than some of the high-tech gear now being offered. Look not for home office equipment (a lot of which is generally smaller, slower, and filled with fewer features than products geared toward businesses), but for business-related items that are sold used, at discounted and bargain prices. Many major companies regularly upgrade their office space with new gadgetry – what happens to all their old stuff?

The yellow pages is a great place to start finding bargain office equipment. Call around and ask about used products, sales, and auctions, for this is where a lot of discounted items can be found. Some companies may even be willing to sell their old equipment, so don’t be afraid to call around and ask local groups if they need anything taken off their hands. Buying on a self employment budget can be a real pain, but do a little homework first, take the time to make some calls, and ask plenty of questions. There are bargains out there, and a lot of discounts to be had. It’s just a matter of finding them.
